The books are probably out of date. Try searching for newer versions of the same books. They're usually updated as new Flex versions come out. I think I've heard good things about <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1935182420/zeuslabs-20/ref=nosim/" rel="nofollow">Flex 4 In Action</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1617290610/zeuslabs-20/ref=nosim/" rel="nofollow">Flex Mobile In Action</a>, but I have not read them myself.
